Jermaine Jenas facing avalanche of new allegations after BBC dismissal

BBC executives were in panic mode on Thursday evening, with the company forced to dismiss Jermaine Jenas from his broadcasting contract after allegations of inappropriate behavior were made against him.

Jenas, a former Premier League midfielder, had grown nicely into his role as a pundit and analyst with BBC Sport, regularly featuring on Match of the Day, and it was widely expected that he would be the natural successor to Gary Lineker‘s lofty position within the organization.

Yet, over the course of the past 24 hours that belief has been obliterated, with Jenas facing a further avalanche of allegations over his behavior, and his broadcasting career is looking likely to be over.

BBC performed internal investigation over Jenas complaints

Many have long accused the BBC of being slow to act with regards to allegations against their employees, especially the high-profile ones, but after the recent Huw Edwards debacle there has been an appetite within the company to ensure there are no repeat performances.

As such, the allegations made against Jenas, who also fronted the popular magazine show ‘The One Show’ were taken seriously from the beginning.

BBC officials began an internal investigation into Jenas’ conduct and subsequently decided to dismiss him from his contract.

Multiple women have since come forward

As is often the case with instances such as this, there is a dam-like quality in the sense that once the first victim comes forward, there is often a flood of others.

According to several reports, that appears to be the case with Jenas, with multiple other women accusing the former footballer of inappropriate behavior.

Jenas, who also works for TNT Sport and talkSPORT, was actually on air when news of his BBC dismissal broke.

“Look, I can’t really talk about it. I, as you can probably see, I am not happy about it,” Jenas told talkSPORT.

“But currently, as it stands, I’m, going to have to let the lawyers deal with it. You know, there’s two sides to every story, as we know. So, that’s all I can say right now.”
