The Dallas Cowboys are one game away from ending their chaotic season when they take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday, who already have a playoff spot, along with another of their divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, who have had a year to be contenders for the Super Bowl.
The media pressure on Jerry Jones has been a recurring theme, especially as it was a season in which they entered as candidates to win the Super Bowl and will end it with a losing record, while their divisional rivals are on track to get there, with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings as their main obstacles.

The Cowboys owner was questioned in an interview on @1053thefan about the comparison with the Eagles and defended his economic plan, as while Dallas spent $21.5 million in free agency, Philadelphia invested $138 million, and for Jerry Jones his rivals have spent a lot of money to form the team, plus they already had their quarterback Jalen Hurts signed for $255 million since 2023.
“They’re at a point now where they’re paying their quarterback. They’ve spent a lot of money to put this team together and they’ve spent some money on the salary cap. This is a good time for them to do it because they’ve invested a lot in this team,” Jerry Jones said.
Jerry Jones justifies Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb contract extensions
According to data from Over the Cap, the Eagles invested $138,145,000 this season, of which $84,450,000 was guaranteed, while Jerry Jones defended his project, in which he said he takes the salary cap into account to balance what the Cowboys need in the short term, but with a long-term vision, hence the million-dollar contract extensions to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
“I certainly make comparisons with the state of the salary cap (of other teams) in the league to see where they have room to increase the cap. I do it all the time. I look at every club very carefully. Obviously, I analyze it and apply it to us and where we spend our money,” Jones continued, adding that this is why they extended Prescott and Lamb‘s contracts this year: “We knew they were cornerstones of the present and the future.”
