The Dallas Cowboys are in the most precarious position possible. Injuries have pulled the mask off of the roster, exposing what isn’t a truly well-constructed and talented team. Now, the team has lost its starting quarterback, Dak Prescott, for at least the next four weeks and probably even more.
With a 3-5 record, the season falls all but over as they turn to backup Cooper Rush to keep it alive. You can do worse for a second-string quarterback than Rush, but the Cowboys offense’s ceiling will be limited with him under center. That’s why some fans have wondered if starting Trey Lance over him would actually be better for the team. A former 3rd overall pick with a big arm and tons of mobility, Lance hasn’t been able to supplant Rush as the backup through preseason and practices.
Jerry Jones says Trey Lance could sub in for certain packages
Owner Jerry Jones left very open the possibility of Lance playing in Prescott’s absence, although he claims it would only be in certain packages. But before he spoke about that, he made a comment about Rush replacing Prescott that left some Cowboys fans perplexed.
Fans were a bit taken aback by Jones saying that Rush can run the same offense that Dak does.
- “Paid an above average/good QB the highest contract ever only to say Cooper can do the same things.”
- “If he really felt that way, he would not have gave Dak that contract. Jerry still being Jerry.”
- “If his senile a** really believes this, why give Dak a new contract??”
Jones was likely just giving Rush a vote of confidence more than anything, but it’s extremely clear that Cowboys fans are fed up with the over-controlling owner of the team. Many feel he is holding the franchise hostage.
