Jerry West cause of death: What did the legendary inspiration for the NBA’s logo die of?

Jerry West, one of the NBA’s all-time greats and a legendary figure for the Los Angeles Lakers, has passed away at 86, as announced by the Los Angeles Clippers. West’s illustrious career spanned 15 seasons with the Lakers from 1960 to 1974, after which he continued to serve the organization for nearly three decades.

Initially, he took on the role of head coach, followed by a successful tenure as general manager, during which he secured one championship as a player and six more in the front office. West further cemented his legacy by contributing to two more championships as an advisor with the Golden State Warriors and most recently served in a similar capacity with the Clippers. Notably, his silhouette became the iconic image for the NBA’s logo.

West’s passing marks the loss of a second NBA legend in recent weeks. Bill Walton, another revered figure in Los Angeles basketball, passed away on May 27 at the age of 71.
