Since the NBA announced the reopening of the investigation into Jaxson Hayes after new videos surfaced of a heated incident with his then-girlfriend, model Sofia Jamora, many people in his circle have felt obliged to speak up.
Jovan Buha of ‘The Athletic’ reported that Lakers head coach JJ Redick addressed the situation, posting a tweet about it. According to Buha, Redick stated:
“We’re obviously aware that the investigation has been reopened, and we’re going to cooperate fully. But other than that, I’m not going to have another comment on that,” Redick said.
New revelations
The video in question dates back to when Hayes was a player with the New Orleans Pelicans, in 2021.
In the video, Jaxson Hayes appears visibly angry during an argument with Jamora over their pet. He pulls her from one room to another, creating enough noise and disturbance that the LAPD responded to a report of domestic issues. According to the LAPD, Hayes was hesitant to cooperate with the officers who arrived at the scene.
“Officers utilized physical force to take Hayes down to the ground to overcome his resistance. Once on the ground, Hayes attempted to get up and continued resisting officers. Officers utilized two deployments of the taser, as well as body weight and physical force during the altercation,” the LAPD stated.
Hayes was later sentenced to three years of probation in 2022. Now that the new video may be used as evidence, his potential penalties are yet to be determined.
