This Monday the Los Angeles Lakers introduced JJ Redick as the new head coach of the 17-time NBA champion franchise, becoming the twenty-ninth coach to take the Los Angeles bench in history.
During the press conference at Redick’s official presentation as the new Lakers coach, led by General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations, Rob Pelinka, Redick made it clear that he understands the challenge he is taking on, and the expectations that are expected of him, upon taking the position.
“I know what the expectations are… Lakers fans are the most passionate in the entire world… and the expectations are a championship… That’s what I signed up for,” he said. “I want to coach the Lakers. I want to coach the team. I don’t want to dissipate anything. I do not do it. I want to become a great coach in the NBA and I want to win championships. And I want my players to maximize their careers. That’s all I care about,” was part of what Redick said.
After firing Darvin Ham and receiving rejection from UConn coach Dan Hurley, the Lakers decided to hand over the job to Redick, 39, who will thus face his first experience on an NBA bench.

JJ Redick immediately embraced the pressure of leading the Lakers to the title. The brand-new Los Angeles coach accepted criticism about his inexperience to take command of the team.
“It’s a valid question and I certainly heard everything it’s been a really interesting six weeks or so, just in terms of being part of the engagement farming industry, however I don’t have a great answer to your question because I really don’t give a f*ck, honestly, I want to coach the Lakers, I want to coach the team, I don’t want to dispel anything, I don’t, I wanna become a great coach in the NBA and I want to win a championship,” he said.
Redick, who played 15 years in the NBA, is currently working to build his coaching staff. The now coach will join the Lakers project and will direct LeBron James, with whom he has been collaborating in recent months on a podcast, although he did say his podcasting days are over.
