Michelle Manziel, the mother of former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, was arrested Saturday for driving while intoxicated in Kerrville, Texas, according to TMZ Sports. The report included a mugshot of Michelle and stated that she was held on a $7,500 bail.
Kerrville, a suburb of San Antonio, is where Johnny Manziel first gained national recognition as a high school football star before committing to Texas A&M. He went on to win the Heisman Trophy as a freshman and became a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

Legal troubles run in the Manziel family
This is not the first time a member of the Manziel family has had issues with the law. Johnny himself admitted to drinking and driving in 2015 while playing for the Cleveland Browns. Additionally, his cousin, Bobby Joe Manziel, was reportedly sentenced to four years in jail for DWI.
Johnny Manziel’s NFL career was ultimately derailed by substance abuse problems, which he has openly discussed in recent years. In the Netflix documentary Untold: Johnny Football, he revealed that he frequently used OxyContin and cocaine after the 2015 season-shortly before the Browns released him. He also admitted to refusing rehab twice, which caused tension within his family.
Johnny’s struggles and path to redemption
The strained relationship between Johnny and his family became a focal point of his personal struggles. His father, Paul Manziel, reflected on their difficulties in the documentary:
“It’s been a long, long road, and I don’t know if it’s been great or if it’s been bad-that’s kind of still up for debate. But we’re blessed. And he’s still with us. And we can mend all the fences still.”
Despite his troubled past, Johnny attempted to revive his football career in 2018 after a heartfelt conversation with his mother encouraged him to return to the sport. He went on to play in the Canadian Football League and later joined the Fan Controlled Football League, where he last competed in 2022.
Most recently, Johnny was in a year-long relationship with Josie Canseco, the daughter of former MLB star Jose Canseco. However, reports surfaced last month that the couple had split.
As for Michelle Manziel, there have been no public comments from Johnny or his family regarding her recent arrest.
