Jose Alvarado goes off with 8 triples in 19 minutes as Knicks rout Sixers

Jose Alvarado scored 26 points, with eight three-pointers, in the New York Knicks‘ 89-138 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, in his third game with the New York franchise.

The Puerto Rican (born in Brooklyn) was the best of the Knicks coming off the bench and in less than 19 minutes on the court. In addition to his 26 points on 61.5% shooting, Alvarado had five steals, four assists and three rebounds.

Alvarado took the reins for the Knicks on a night when their star, Jalen Brunson, was not at his best, with only nine points. In addition to Alvarado, Dominican Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Mikal Bridges contributed 22.

The Knicks, who led by 52 points, took out their frustration on the 76ers after last night’s tough loss at Madison Square Garden, where they fell in overtime to the struggling Indiana Pacers.

It was an especially bitter stumble because of the rivalry between the two franchises.

The 76ers, without Joel Embiid, were nowhere near enough with Tyrese Maxey’s 32 points.

The Knicks (35-20), who are third in the East, will not play again until after the All-Star break. After the break, they will face the Detroit Pistons (40-13), the conference leaders
