Josh Allen, quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, has made it clear in response to ongoing comparisons with Patrick Mahomes. Despite the similarities in their careers and the media hype, Allen prefers to focus on what really matters: winning in the playoffs.
In a recent conversation with the media, Allen was blunt in pointing out that, while both have had impressive careers, the crucial difference between him and Mahomes lies in postseason performance.
“Well, I know we haven’t beaten them in the playoffs,” Allen said, referring to his record against Mahomes.
“That’s the only thing that really matters.” Although the Bills have won three straight regular-season games against the Chiefs since 2020, the playoff record still heavily favors Kansas City.
Allen has not been able to beat Mahomes in the playoffs
In the past four years, Buffalo has lost three times in the postseason to the Chiefs, including a 27-24 defeat in January, where Buffalo’s final drive stalled at the Chiefs‘ 26-yard line with two incompletions from Allen and a missed 44-yard field goal by Tyler Bass.
However, Allen doesn’t get distracted by the media frenzy and maintains a grounded perspective.
“I know the media perception and the fan perception is about what this game means. But for us, it’s just Week 11,” he commented on the highly anticipated matchup against Mahomes and the undefeated Chiefs.
According to Allen, the importance of the game is simply to stay with the process and not let distractions change the team’s mindset.
It hasn’t been an easy season for Allen
Although Allen has had a less productive season in terms of yards and touchdowns compared to previous years, with 2,281 yards and 17 touchdowns, his interception rate has significantly decreased.
Additionally, he has adapted well to the Bills‘ offensive limitations due to injuries, such as the absence of Keon Coleman and a lack of chemistry with his receivers.
“It’s hard to put a number on it. He just keeps improving”, said his backup Mitch Trubisky, who highlighted Allen’s consistent work to overcome his weaknesses.
While Allen doesn’t feel the pressure of comparisons, his focus remains clear: winning in the playoffs. As he said himself, “I just try to focus on what I can do for the Buffalo Bills”.
