Kenan Thompson shows off a Mighty Ducks 4 script and leads a quack chant at an Anaheim Ducks game

Is it Knuckle-Puck time all over again? According to The Mighty Ducks star Kenan Thompson, it could be! While attending an Anaheim Ducks game on February 1, Saturday Night Live alum Kenan Thompson flashed a script for The Mighty Ducks 4 at the camera, sparking speculation about a fourth film chapter of the coming-of-age sports comedy franchise.

While at the game, Thompson wore a “Tyler” jersey in honor of his Mighty Ducks character, Russ Tyler, who famously used his Knuckle-Puck trick shot to wow crowds and leave goalies speechless. According to reports, Thompson was cheering for the Ducks forward Alex Killorn, who was playing his 1,000th NHL game. During the game, Thompson led the stadium in a quack chant, a nostalgia-filled gesture that harkens back to the Mighty Ducks films and gets Anaheim Ducks fans pumped.

Will there be a Mighty Ducks 4? Sadly, it’s unlikely. According to Emilio Estevez, he wrote a script for the film, but Disney wasn’t interested.

“I also wrote Mighty Ducks 4. I wanted to make up for all of the disasters that happened on the Game Changers series,” Estevez said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in April of last year. “[It’s] a feature script that had coach Bombay coming back, being pulled back in by Joshua Jackson’s character and Kenan Thompson’s character and to coach a new team, an expansion team, for the professional women’s hockey league.”

“So, it would be an all-girl team. Now, when we discover Bombay, he’s coaching roller derby and so he says, ‘My girls are going with me. They have to have a shot,’” he continued, adding, “It was charming and contemporary and cool and organically of the moment. It’s where we’re at… Disney was like, ‘We don’t want to pursue that.’”

Fun Fact: I used to work with J.D. Daniels, who played Peter in Disney’s original The Mighty Ducks. We lived roughly 15 minutes apart, so we used to carpool to the Acclaim Entertainment building in Glen Cove, where we did quality assurance for a handful of game titles. Daniels was always good company on long drives, and we often played games together at the office. J.D., if you read this, hit me up!
