Kevin Durant burner account scandal: LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul speaks out

Social media can be unforgiving-and Kevin Durant knows this better than most. The scandal surrounding the Houston Rockets star’s alleged burner account has escalated to the point where even LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, has weighed in.

Durant has long carried a controversial reputation for his online interactions, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where he frequently responds to anonymous critics.

Recently, screenshots of an alleged burner account tied to Durant began circulating online. The posts contained harsh criticism of several NBA figures, including:

  • Stephen Curry
  • Steve Kerr
  • Devin Booker
  • Jabari Smith Jr.
  • Alperen Sengun
  • Russell Westbrook

Amid the uproar, Paul questioned whether the account truly belonged to Durant.

Rich Paul comes to Durant’s defense

On a recent episode of the Game Over podcast, which he co-hosts with Max Kellerman, Paul expressed skepticism: “I don’t know that to be true,” he said.

He added that players often lack safe spaces to express themselves:

These guys always have to be ‘on.’ They never get an opportunity to just be themselves.

Kellerman echoed the sentiment, noting the lack of concrete evidence: “People say, ‘Oh, this is Kevin Durant’s burner account.’ Why? Because someone claims they were in a chat with him and saw the same avatars? That doesn’t sound solid.”

Still, many argue that Durant’s history with alternate accounts has fueled the controversy.

Durant’s history with burner accounts

In 2019, the 18-season veteran admitted to using anonymous accounts to chat with friends without outside interference. In 2023, he even teased fans by tweeting: “On Threads with a burner. Come find me.”

Despite the latest scandal, Durant has not confirmed whether the controversial account is his. For now, fans may never know the truth.
