Kevin Durant could obtain a multi-million extension with Rockets after pay cut

Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant is set to sign a new deal for two years with the team, worth $100 million, sources say. This deal means a big pay cut for the 36-year-old NBA star, who is in the last year of his current deal.

Durant will get $54.7 million in the 2025-26 season, and he can sign for two more years because of the NBA’s Over-38 rule. Even though the Rockets can pay up to $122.1 million, it seems Durant will take less to stay in Houston and help them aim for a championship.

New plan for Rockets and Durant

This new deal shows a big plan change for Durant and the Rockets. By taking less money, Durant gives Houston more room to get more good players. This move also shows he is all invested with the Rockets, who just got him in a big trade.

Durant coming has made people think the Rockets can do more than well this season. Despite his age, he is still one of the best at scoring and might be the MVP this season.

Big game to begin the race

The Rockets’ first game is against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant’s old team. The matchup is expected to be emotionally charged, as Durant returns to the arena where he spent the first eight seasons of his career.

Adding to the drama, a Thunder fan made fun of Durant online, saying he would just watch OKC win. Durant replied with a joke:

Finally. It’s been 10 years, ’bout time they win one lmaooo,” he wrote on X.

The deal is not done or signed yet, but talks are going well. If it goes through, Durant will stay with the Rockets until 2027 and lead their rebuild.

The Rockets will share news once they agree on the terms. For now, fans and experts wait as one of the top NBA scorers gets ready for a big time in his big career.
