Kevin Durant takes aim at Stephen A. Smith after Suns win: He’s always been a clown

Kevin Durant and Stephen A. Smith have one thing in common, and that is that neither are afraid to speak their minds.

Both are stars in their respective fields with Durant one of the most dominant scorers in NBA history, while Smith is viewed by many as the premier sports personality on TV today.

It should come as no surprise then that the two don’t always see eye to eye, with neither afraid to get something off their chest.

That’s exactly what happened on Saturday when Durant hit out at Smith following the Suns’ 103-97 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Durant takes aim at Smith

Durant took exception to some comments Smith made about his leadership abilities. It comes after first-year Suns coach Mike Budenholzer stated that he couldn’t be more pleased about Durant’s leadership skills, calling his efforts “off the charts.”

Smith has shared harsh opinions on Durant’s ability to be a leader in the past, with the Suns star taking exception when talking to the media on Saturday.

“Yeah, Stephen A., I don’t understand how people even listen to Stephen A.,” Durant told The Athletic.

“I’ve been in the league for 18 years. I’ve never seen Stephen A. at a practice, or a film session, or a shoot-around. I’ve never seen him anywhere but on TV talking s*** about players. … He’s a clown to me. He’s always been a clown. You can write that, too.”

Durant noted that he knows how things work when it comes to sports talk, but that he didn’t want to hear it from someone who only does their talking from behind a desk.

“Of course, I got things I need to work on,” Durant said, adding that talking about leadership is “stuff that’s, like, so vague and subjective.”

With a new episode of First Take set for Monday, we con’t have to wait long to hear Stephen A. Smith’s thoughts on the matter.
