Five years after his departure from the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant’s potential return to the team was generating growing fervor this past summer. This interest was fueled by Durant’s challenges with the Phoenix Suns last season.
It seems that all this has changed despite the Warriors’ obvious need to strengthen their roster in pursuit of another NBA title. It is now the fact that the Suns’ owner has been very proactive over Durant.
Mat Ishbia, the team’s owner, has been very vocal about looking for a contract extension for the star player. “We hope he finishes his career here in Phoenix,” he recently said.
Reasons to believe he will stay
There is a strong belief that Kevin Durant could stay with the team, even at 36, with a very interesting offer for a long-term deal. Insiders have said that Mat Ishbia is ready to open up the check book.
The Phoenix Suns players is in the final year of his $194 million, 4-year contract he signed with the Brooklyn Nets and he wants security for the rest of his career, that coul come soon in The Valley.
FanDuel TV’s Lou Williams backs that theory up as he recently said on the show Run It Back “You gotta give Mat Ishbia credit. You know, he’s a former basketball player himself. He understands greatness when he had when he sees it, and especially when he’s wearing a uniform that he’s responsible for.”
