Football is one of the few sports played outdoors regardless of the weather. Images abound of NFL teams playing on snowy fields or in the rain. Players are used to these extremes, except for Lamar Jackson, who surprised fans with his peculiar attire on Thursday.
The Baltimore Ravens opened Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season by hosting the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium. Jackson’s Ravens managed to hold off a last-second onslaught by the Bengals to pull out a dramatic 35-34 victory.
The game took place under fairly mild weather, with a temperature of 68F (20C) and clear skies. The teams took advantage of the weather to give fans one of the season’s most exciting games.
However, viewers couldn’t help but notice a weird image of Jackson at the start of the game, wondering if something was happening to the Ravens quarterback.
Lamar’s out-of-place attire
The image shows the Baltimore star sitting on the sidelines in the early minutes of the first quarter, wearing a winter hat, a heavy team jacket, a scarf, and one of the face and neck coverings players wear under their helmets.
Jackson’s attire seemed more appropriate for the infamous 1967 Ice Bowl than for a game in such favorable weather as Thursday’s.
Neither Lamar nor the team has explained the matter. The silence has unleashed a hilarious reaction from fans, who have not been shy about making fun of the player’s strange choice of attire.
The reaction of the fans
“Why is Lamar Jackson dressed like this on the sideline in 68 degree weather??,” one social media user asked. Another commented, “Lamar is dressed like he’s playing at Arrowhead Stadium in January…It’s 67 degrees in Baltimore!”
A third also wondered, “It’s like 70 degrees in Maryland rn, why Lamar bundled up like that? Lmao,” and one more mockingly speculated, “Lamar Jackson is from Florida. Anything under 80 is cold for them.”
The Ravens have a long week ahead of them and will be back in action on Sunday, November 17, hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium. Will we see Lamar dressed like he’s playing at the North Pole again? We’ll have to wait and see.
