LeBron James beamed with pride on Saturday as he watched his son, Bronny James, score his first NBA points. The moment came during the California Classic Summer League series against the Sacramento Kings.
Bronny made his mark 5:51 into the second quarter, tying the game at 31 with a layup. The proud father couldn’t contain his excitement upon reviewing the footage. “Come on, man. That’s tough. That’s tough!” LeBron exclaimed. “Get loose!” he encouraged his son.
The Los Angeles Lakers drafted Bronny with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He declared for the draft after a single season at the University of Southern California (USC). During his freshman year, Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 19.3 minutes per game.
Bronny struggled early on
Despite his early highlight, Bronny struggled offensively, finishing the first half with a shooting record of 1-of-6 from the field.
All eyes will be on Bronny this season to see if the heir to the James throne will be able to break into the Lakers NBA roster. Bronny won’t have it easy as almost certainly all of the league will see him as a targe, getting every player’s best effort.
