LeBron James to the New York Knicks? A report claims he could be a serious candidate

The rumor that LeBron James will leave the Lakers and play at least one more season elsewhere continues to grow. The Golden State Warriors have been mentioned as a potential destination, as have the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The reality is that nothing is official, and now a new destination has emerged for James to land and deliver his final great moments before hanging up his sneakers and bringing his illustrious career to a fitting close.

The potential new home seems to have appeared out of nowhere. However, there is also talk of an analysis suggesting that if he were to play there, he would be the missing piece needed for the Knicks to contend for a place in the Finals and, once there, capture the championship.

A strong season for the New York Knicks

Despite the 2025-26 season being something of a roller coaster for the New York Knicks, the team remains one of the best in the Eastern Conference. Even so, there are still many doubts about how they will perform in the postseason and whether they can truly be considered contenders.

At times, they secure impressive victories, only to follow them up with losses that few could have anticipated. Still, their current trajectory, one of the best in recent years and building on last season’s progress, keeps them firmly in the spotlight.

There is no crystal ball to predict what will happen with the franchise in the coming games, but it is clear that improvements to the roster are needed to reach the highest level. Because of this, there is a growing sense that a major move could be on the horizon for the team.

The New York Knicks could pursue LeBron James this summer

LeBron James will become an unrestricted free agent, and it is said that he could finish his playing career with the Knicks. After seeking a contract extension, it is anticipated that this will be his final season with the Lakers.

The high cost associated with LeBron makes it difficult for many teams to afford him. However, the Knicks might be able to offer a deal that benefits both sides, allowing him, at age 41, to make one last run in the NBA.

A Knicks team source told ESPN that the franchise would have to decide if it would be worth it to dramatically change its team complexion for just one season of James – likely not even a full 82 games when accounting for injuries and rest – when New York’s current core has had steady success.

Said ESPN.

Despite his age and injuries, LeBron remains a key player. His production has not declined; instead, he continues to rank among the leaders with truly remarkable numbers.

A lineup featuring

  • James
  • Brunson
  • Towns
  • Mikal Bridges
  • OG Anunoby

Would be immensely powerful and would immediately position them as strong favorites in the East. Such a move would shake up the league and push James out of his comfort zone. If it happens, it would be a defining move across the entire NBA landscape.
