Leo Messi and Bad Bunny: The crossover we didn’t know we needed, but adidas made possible

From Mohamed Salah to Kobe Bryant, and from Pharrell Williams to Run DMC, there is no doubt that Adidas has collaborated with the greatest in sports and music. However, the German brand never stops innovating, and this time it brought a collaboration as unlikely as it is incredible: Leo Messi x Bad Bunny.

The sportswear giant is synonymous with avant-garde. Whether it is for its daring designs or its trend-setting campaigns, Adidas has managed to stay in the public’s taste for more than 100 years.

Thanks to its innovative spirit, the brand founded by Adolf and Rudolf Dassler has attracted great personalities from sports and art. Stars like quarterback Patrick Mahomes and soccer player Paulo Dybala, singer Beyonc and actor Jonah Hill are just some of the big names who have collaborated with Adidas.

With so many great collaborations and so many years of history, it’s hard to think of another way to innovate. However, Adidas pulled another ace up its sleeve, bringing together two of the biggest Latin stars of the moment, soccer player Lionel Messi and musician Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny & Messi: The latest from Adidas

In statements to ESPN, Messi spoke about the collection’s focus on the Latin community, saying, “For me, and I suppose also for Bad Bunny, the Latin community has enormous importance in our lives.”

Bad Bunnyechoed this sentiment by declaring, “We are excited to provide this collaboration to our Latin community. The inspiration comes from our roots and how sport and music intertwine.”

Mutual admiration was key in the development of the project. “We really like his music,” Messi said of the Puerto Rican musician, adding, “We’ve been following him for a long time, and there is always some song of his on the playlists we listen to.”

“I’ve always been a fan of Messi, so collaborating with him is a dream come true,” said Bad Bunny. He declared himself an admirer of the Inter Miami forward, saying, “I’ve seen him as an example of how to stay humble, let your work speak for itself, and stay focused.”

The sneaker line

The German brand surprised the world by presenting this Sunday the unexpected collaboration between these two Latin giants. According to information from ESPN, the Bad Bunny & Messi Collection includes a twist on the classic Adidas Gazelle and a new incarnation of Messi’s F50 sneaker.

The new Gazelle has a vintage touch in homage to the original design and includes the autographs of the musician and the Inter Miami striker with a twist that makes them look personalized. The F50 is gold, recalling the eight Ballon d’Ors won by Messi, and both designs incorporate multiple Easter eggs for fans of both stars.

The new collection will soon be available to the public, who will be able to enjoy Adidas’ unique vision of these two unexpected collaborators and the Latin community in general.
