Lightning kills player and injures several others in Peruvian soccer game

Once again, nature has shown that there is no human force that can counteract it, and this was demonstrated in Peru, where what seemed to be a normal match in a region of that country brought mourning to a family.

The events took place at the Coto Coto stadium in Chicha, Peru, where the teams Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca faced each other as part of a regional tournament.

This is how the tragedy happened

The game had to be interrupted due to the presence of an electrical storm, which led the players to leave the field to protect themselves from any danger from electric shock.

But it was not even 10 seconds after the game was stopped in the 22nd minute when a lightning bolt struck the pitch, hitting 34-year-old defender Jose Hugo De la Cruz Meza, who died instantly.

In addition to De La Cruz’s death, four other players were injured, requiring the presence of emergency services, who took the injured to a nearby hospital.

Juan Chocca Llacta, one of the injured players who was close to the deceased De La Cruz, remains in serious condition due to the severe burns he suffered in the crash.

The image went viral in Peru through social networks, causing shock and questioning the organization of these local tournaments, where there are no guarantees of safety against natural phenomena.
