Luka Doncic might be the star of the NBA at the moment but how about some love for his mother and grandmother, who both travelled to watch him compete against the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the Finals?
Mirjam Poterbin and his grandma Milena Poterbin were both at the TD Garden in Boston on June 10 to watch Doncic bid to claw the Dallas Mavericks back into contention, although in the end he lost by seven points in a 105-98 defeat.
Yet the pair of ladies left quite the impression with their outfit to the game as they donned a Mavericks jersey with number 77 on the back but their own personal nicknames within the family.
“Mami” was on the back of the younger Poterbin‘s jersey, whilst his grandmother had “Babi” on the back, which must be what the Slovenian called them whilst he was growing up in Europe before heading to the NBA.
Doncic takes responsibility for the loss
It’s a long road back for the Mavericks now as the Boston Celtics hold a 42-1 historical series record from leading 2-0 in the NBA Finals, with their only defeat from that position coming against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Doncic, who posted with an impressive 32 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds as he recorded a triple-double in the NBA Finals, took accountability for his side’s loss as he felt he was too sloppy.
“It didn’t work because we lost,” Doncic said, of the Mavericks‘ plan. “At the end of the day, we’ve got to make some more shots.
“I think my turnovers and my missed free throws cost us the game. So I’ve got to do way better in those two categories. At the end of the day, we’ve got to make shots.”
Doncic is in fine form. In Game 1 he posted 30 points, one rebound and 11 assists to take his combined score through two matches up to 62 points, 22 assists and 12 rebounds.
