Dallas Mavericks owner MArk Cuban knows he already has a winning team in his hands that already includes two of the NBA’s biggest stars. Last season, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving guided the team to the NBA Finals but lost against the Boston Celtics. When a season like that ends in a heartbreak, team owners have two choices. Either they change their strategy or they add more players for a new project. Mark Cuban chose the latter and he signed none other than Klay Thompson. The 4-time NBA Champion is coming from the Golden State Warriors dynasty. He decided to leave the team of his life in order to find a new adventure where the fire in his belly to compete could return. His choice was the Dallas Mavericks but the owner doesn’t seem to have a great plan for him.
Mark Cuban’s plan for Klay Thompson
Cuban has been making the rounds lately talking to various media outlets about the new project that includes Klay Thompson. Clearly, the Mavericks owner feels like he has a winning ticket with this project. But people online were bewildered by the comments he made about the alleged plan there is already in place for Thompson. Speaking on the ‘Roommates Show’ podcast, Cuban said: “At Golden State, he had to always be on the move. They had that motion offense where he was always coming off screens and running. We don’t do that or not nearly as much. I’m sure we’ll run some of that action for him, but just standing in the corner, standing in the wings and just catch-and-shoot from Luka [Doncic] and Ky [Irving]. Hopefully, his life is gonna get easier.”
For Klay Thompson, the last season at th Warriors was not easy as there seemed to be only a small portion of the player he once was. That made the fans turn against him and start criticizing him on the internet. It became unbearable for Thompson, that’s one of the many reasons he decided to not return. When he decided to leave, his own father who is a former NBA star wanted him to play for the Lakers but the Mavericks were the lucky ones. Can you imagine Klay just staying in the corner to knock out threes as his only job inside the Mavericks? Wasting his many talents as a player does seem counter productive.
