Matthew Stafford welcomes Davante Adams to Rams: ‘A game-changer for our offense’

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is looking forward to the upcoming NFL season, especially with the addition of three-time All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams.

The Rams secured Adams on a two-year contract worth up to $44 million, bolstering an already promising offensive unit.

A major weapon for Stafford

Having faced Adams numerous times during his tenure with the Detroit Lions, Stafford knows firsthand the impact the star receiver can have on a game.

“I’ve seen what Davante can do on the field, and he’s one of the best in the league,” Stafford said. “His ability to create separation, make contested catches, and impact the game in so many ways is going to be a huge addition for us.”

The Rams‘ receiving corps, which already features standout Puka Nacua along with Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington, now has one of the most dominant pass-catchers in the game. Adams‘ arrival strengthens an offense that is expected to be among the most competitive in the league next season.

Saying goodbye to a longtime teammate

While Stafford is thrilled about Adams joining the team, he also took a moment to acknowledge the departure of Cooper Kupp. The former Super Bowl MVP signed a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks after the Rams were unable to trade him. His new deal could be worth up to $45 million.

“Coop was a great teammate, a great Ram,” Stafford said. “Everyone here knows what he meant to this team and this city. I’m happy he found a place he wanted to be, and that he got the deal he deserved.”

Although Stafford will now see Kupp as an opponent at least twice a year, he made it clear that his admiration for his former teammate remains unchanged.

“I’ll always root for him-except when we’re facing each other,” he added with a smile.

Looking ahead to a promising season

Stafford, who is preparing for his fifth season in Los Angeles, is set to begin offseason workouts with a team that has high expectations. With Adams now in the mix, the Rams are positioned to be a serious Super Bowl contender once again.

“We have all the pieces to do something special,” Stafford said. “I can’t wait to get to work.”
