United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino used the spotlight of the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw to express gratitude to President Donald Trump, thanking him for supporting the federation and the growth of soccer across America.
Walking the red carpet at the glamorous event, Pochettino insisted this moment must be embraced, calling the upcoming tournament “a time to enjoy” for everyone involved.
“I want to thank Andrew, and President Trump as well, for all the support they’re giving the federation and for promoting the values of soccer here in the Americas,” he said.
“We are doing a very good job and together we will be able to be very competitive and transmit what this society really seeks.”

The United States may have a clear path in Group D
The U.S. will lead Group D as a top seed, guaranteed to avoid co-hosts Mexico and Canada as well as the nine strongest teams qualifying through FIFA rankings.
With home-field advantage and rising confidence, the United States hopes those first three matches are only the beginning of its journey.
Pochettino’s tenure hasn’t always looked this promising. Early clashes with key players, disappointing performances, and a slow-learning system fueled skepticism around his leadership.
Pochettino and Team USA have turned the script on its head
But the past two months have flipped the script. A refreshed squad closed the year by putting five goals past defensive powerhouse Uruguay, a statement win that lifted spirits and silenced doubts.
Now, heading into the holidays, Pochettino can strategize with greater peace of mind – and with the belief that the Stars and Stripes are ready to deliver a historic World Cup on home soil.
