Mike Florio seems to think Aaron Rodgers could try to force a trade away from the New York Jets given the 40-year-old continues to struggle at the MetLife Stadium as he finds himself last in the AFC East.
That’s right, the Jets are now below even the New England Patriots, who lost six consecutive games between Week 2 and Week 8 of the 2024/25 NFL season, as the season turns into a misery after they were tipped to go to the Super Bowl.
Despite possessing offensive weapons such as Rodgers, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard and now Davante Adams, they have only scored 170 points through the opening half of the season and haven’t taken a step forwards since firing Robert Saleh on October 8.
Florio suggests Rodgers could now try to force an exit from the organization if another starting quarterback gets hurt and believes the ex-Green Bay Packer and one-time Super Bowl champion has the influence to do so.
“If [New York loses] [and] if a starting quarterback on a contending team gets injured this weekend,” Florio said to NBC Sports. “Does Aaron Rodgers the quarterback go to Aaron Rodgers the general manager and ask for a trade?
“If that would happen, does Aaron Rodgers get trade? I think, at some level, he’d want [to be]. It’s his way out, it’s his way to try to finish his career with a positive note.”
Could Rodgers leave?
If Rodgers is plotting an escape from the Jets, he will need to move quickly with the trade deadline for the 2024/25 NFL season fast approaching on November 5, although it’s unlikely he is heading for a departure anyway.
With just 1,896 passing yards and a 12-7 touchdown-interception rate, as well as a 61.6% completion rate, some teams may not think he is worth making the move for. Especially considering his Achilles’ heel is vulnerable after he missed the entire 2023 season through injury.
