Josh Allen has been one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in recent years, leading the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs in five of the past six seasons.
Despite success in the regular season, that hasn’t translated to deep playoff runs, with the Bills having failed to make the Super Bowl during that time.
Nevertheless, Allen’s play on the field has made him one of the biggest names in the league, which should translate to being one of the top paid QBs in the league.
However, Trevor Lawrence recently signed a massive five-year contract extension $275 million, including $142 million guaranteed, which makes him the highest paid player in NFL history alongside Joe Burrow.
Florio discussed the deal on ‘Pardon My Take’ and stated the Lawrence’s contract highlights that Allen isn’t getting paid enough.
“Josh Allen is getting screwed because Allen doesn’t have any devices in his contract that would force them to pay him more,” said Florio.
“He’s at $45 million. The two best quarterbacks in the NFL are at $45 million per year.
“And now we’ve got guys at $55 million per year, at some point Allen needs to be saying to the Bills, we’ve got to be doing something about this because all due respect to Trevor Lawrence, he’s not Josh Allen.”
While Florio believes that Lawrence is a talented quarterback, he doesn’t think he is on the same level as Allen.
Where does Allen’s contract rank among QBs?
Allen will make $43 million in 2024. Ahead of him are the aforementioned Lawrence and Burrow, as well as Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins, who will make $45 million this season.
Jared Goff, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray and Deshuan Watson are also ahead of Allen on the list.
The good news for Allen is that while he is under contract until 2028, he does hav an opt-out option after the 2025 season.
