All eyes wait to see when Bronny James, son of the legendary LeBron James, will be picked in the 2024 NBA Draft as the USC Trojans graduate bids to kick off his career but how much money will he earn if he goes as the overall first pick?
It will be the 78th edition of the famous selection event and it will be hosted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, with the event being sponsored StateFarm across two nights from June 26-27.
Last year witnessed Victor Wembanyama get immediately snapped up by the San Antonio Spurs before the now 20-year-old went on to produce one of the finest rookie NBA seasons in history but due to the unique structure of the NBA along with salary caps, could only earn $12m as a debutant.
When a player signs in the first round, they sign a rookie-scale contract meaning that they’re assigned a salary based on a salary cap projection which can range from 80-120 percent of that rookie-scale figure. It will be somewhere between $2.1m and $10.6m depending on if you are selected as the first or the 30th pick of the first round.
The remaining 30 players will be limited to a two-way deal meaning they won’t be earning much and will be under pressure to secure their long-term future in the sport. Two-way players, if permitted by cap space, will face a minimum salary of $1.12m but it likely won’t grow much higher considering their unfavorable draft position in the second round.
Who has the first pick of the 2024 NBA Draft?
The Atlanta Hawks will get the first pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, closely followed by the Washington Wizards and then the Houston Rockets. The Spurs could continue to build a strong team around Wembanyama as they possess the fourth pick.
At the foot of the first round of the Draft is the 2024 NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, who will go last in round one. Just before them are the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
