NFL legend Brett Favre has sent President Donald Trump a message of support after he signed an executive order that effectively bans transgender athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.
The order is titled ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ and it will require entities that receive federal funding to align with Title XI. The action undoes a 2024 rewrite from former President Joe Biden.
One of the loudest voices in support of this bill was Favre, and he also had some support for Riley Gaines who hosts Outkick’s Gaines for Girls podcast for ‘being part of this initiative to help push this forward’.
“I appreciate President @realDonaldTrump signing an initiative to keep biological boys from competing against females,” Favre said in a post on X of the executive order. “It’s sad that this had to happen in this day and age, but glad it was done.”
Trump was surrounded by female athletes as he signed the bill and he said at the ceremony: “The war on women’s sports is over.”
NCAA response
NCAA President Charlie Baker has announced that the Board of Governors will be reviewing the bill and taking steps to align their policies.
“The NCAA is an organization made up of 1,100 colleges and universities in all 50 states that collectively enroll more than 530,000 student-athletes,” the statement read.
“We strongly believe that clear, consistent and uniform eligibility standards would best serve today’s student-athletes instead of a patchwork of conflicting state laws and court decisions. To that end, President Trump’s order provides a clear, national standard.”

The belief now is that Trump will turn his attention toward the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in mind.
According to a report published by Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA’s Law School, in 2022, out of an estimated 332 million people living in the US, 1.3 million adults and 300,000 young people ages 13 to 17 identify as transgender, equaling half a percent and 1.4 percent of the population respectively.
In May 2023, Newsweek interviewed researcher and medical physicist Joanna Harper, and asked her to estimate the number of transgender athletes competing in US sports.
“While we don’t know the exact number of trans women competing in NCAA sports, I would be very surprised if there were more than 100 of them in the women’s category,” Harper replied.
