Nike hits back at Jaylen Brown for pointing out its ‘unethical operations’


In recent weeks, there has been a war of words between Nike, one of the world’s giants in sportswear, and one of the NBA‘s figures, Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics.

The dispute has been going on for some time, but it was reignited on Wednesday when the swoosh brand posted a congratulatory message for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo after the Greek Freak had an impressive 59-point, 14-rebound night in the 127-120 win over the Detroit Pistons.

The message is a reference to the criticism made by Jaylen Brown against Giannis, one of Nike’s figures in the NBA, who called him “childish” for pretending to shake hands during a head-to-head confrontation.

Brown has also criticised Nike for announcing a series of ‘ethical policies’, but maintaining commercial ties in China. The player points out that these policies are contradictory as Nike promotes social equity in the United States “but sells millions of products a year to a country run by a tyrannical government that still practices slavery”.
