Over the weekend, Aiyuk was recorded driving at more than 100 miles per hour on a roadway where the posted speed limit is just 40 mph. The video shows moments in which the vehicle exceeded 111 miles per hour, prompting widespread criticism toward a player who, in recent weeks, has already struggled to make an impact with the 49ers. Since suffering a serious ACL injury during the 2024 season, Brandon Aiyuk’s relationship with the 49ers has steadily deteriorated, and all signs suggest his time in Santa Clara may be nearing its end.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan recently acknowledged that Aiyuk has become distant from the team. The 49ers ultimately placed him on the reserve/left squad list, a move that eliminated key financial guarantees from his contract.
“We haven’t seen him in forever. I haven’t seen him in a month. Hasn’t been an issue with our team at all. We’ve been plugging away. No big deal,” Shanahan said recently.
While the NFL typically does not discipline players for speeding violations that do not result in serious consequences, the situation is far from ideal for Aiyuk’s public image.
