As you may know, Donald Trump has officially won back the presidency by defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. This victory makes him the 47th President of the United States, marking a historic return to the White House after a four-year hiatus. Trump’s political journey began in 2016 after his surprise victory over Hillary Clinton. However, his re-election bid in 2020 was unsuccessful, losing to Joe Biden amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump’s second term will prioritize policies aimed at job growth and mainly economic stability.
Pat McAfee and Aaron Rodgers mock Lebron James
Aaron Rodgers was at it again on the Pat McAfee show. This time it seems he was subtly mocking Lebron James and the celebrities who endorsed the losing candidate, Democrat Kamala Harris. Rodgers and McAfee were discussing celebrities who publicly endorse political parties, in this case candidates, and although they never mentioned Lebron James by name, Rodgers seems to have referred to him with the comment, “My favorite is when the celebrity is bought and paid for by China”. LeBron, along with numerous other entertainment celebrities, shared a video on his social media accounts just days before the election endorsing Kamala Harris and encouraging his followers to vote for her.
My take on why this comment about China is directed at LeBron is because in the lead up to Joe Biden’s election as president in 2020, a common talking point among Republicans was that LeBron was “bought and paid for” by China, referring to his relationship with Nike. I don’t know for sure if that’s what Rodgers was referring to, but for some reason he made that comment and everyone laughed. There’s probably a lot of respect and mutual admiration in the relationship between Rodgers and James. Both are the oldest players in their respective leagues this season – LeBron at 39 in the NBA and Aaron Rodgers at 40 in the NFL – so Rodgers’ comment was probably just a playful jab.
Democrats pulled out all the stops in their efforts to win the presidency, featuring stars like LeBron James, Taylor Swift,Stephen Curry, Barack Obama, Billie Eilish, and even much of the Avengers cast – including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans – in their ads and other campaign materials. But even the Avengers couldn’t save Kamala from losing to Trump, whose victory shows that Americans are looking for change in the country. Let’s hope Trump can be that change.
While we don’t know for sure who Rodgers voted for, it’s clear that he rarely mixes his NFL fame with any kind of political message. On the other hand, we do know that LeBron James has consistently supported Democrats throughout his 22-year NBA career, and will likely continue to do so for the rest of his life.
