Patrick Mahomes cleared to play Saturday against Texans

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will start Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium despite suffering an ankle injury last Sunday, ESPN reported.

The Chiefs did not place Mahomes on the injured list for Saturday’s game, which will be the Chiefs’ last home game of the regular season.

Andy Reid never ceases to be amazed by Mahomes’ mentality

Kansas City Chiefs head coach said Mahomes practiced throughout Thursday’s session, the Chiefs’ last of the week, in addition to being in the team’s work Tuesday and Wednesday.

“He looked good out there, he moved pretty well. So you’re always looking to make sure they can get out of the way, so you don’t cause them any harm,” Reid said.

I’ve been through that with him before, and I’m surprised every time he does it. The guy has been so mentally strong and just puts it in a mindset that he has had for a few years.

Mahomes has 3,348 passing yards on the season, with 335 completions on 502 attempts, plus 22 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.

He is tenth in passing yards among quarterbacks, ninth in TD passes, and sixth in the most interceptions on the year, and has been sacked 35 times.

When wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was asked how Mahomes looked in practice this week, he said: “Like he always does.”

Mahomes suffered an ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns. He left the game and was replaced by Carson Wentz.

The Chiefs also ruled out left tackle D.J. Humphries for Saturday’s game.

Humphries did not practice all week due to a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Week 14 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Chiefs used Joe Thuney, normally their starting left guard, as left tackle against the Cleveland Browns.
