The decision to rest Patrick Mahomes for the Denver Broncos game could be the best of the year for Andy Reid as the Kansas City Chiefs‘ quarterback will be able to visit his grandfather, who is back in hospital again.
Randi Mahomes broke the news via Instagram that her father is back under medical supervision, despite being at home with the family as recently as Thanksgiving Day on November 28.
He has been in and out of the hospital throughout the past 12 months but was rushed back in on December 28. He was previously checked into the ward when Patrick was on the field against the Los Angeles Chargers in September.

“Prayer warriors, please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well…,” Randi posted to Instagram on December 28, days after she cryptically quoted the Bible on her Instagram Stories.
It’s unclear what Patrick‘s maternal grandfather is battling against, but it could be chronic or recurring based on the past 12 months. What we do know is his grandfather is quite elderly now considering his daughter is almost 49.
Mahomes rested against Broncos
The news comes at a stressful time for the Chiefs‘ quarterback, who is preparing for the NFL Playoffs and is also preparing to help his wife birth their third child together. The 29-year-old last described his beau as due “any day now” and hopes the birth is between January 5-18, when he won’t be on the field.
The Chiefs are in action against the Denver Broncos on January 5 but Mahomes will be watching from home as Carson Wentz takes over the reins, allowing the three-time Super Bowl champion to rest up and avoid injury.
It could give him the chance to go and visit his grandfather, who resides in Tyler in Texas, which is where both Patrick and Randi were born.
