Patrick Mahomes is at the pinnacle of the sport of football at 28 years old. Fresh off of two straight Super Bowl wins, Mahomes is the guy to beat, and he has been for quite some time now. His admiration for the sport helps him maintain his greatness, as he constantly watches other games. And he’s a big fan of the college game as well.
His alma mater, Texas Tech, is currently 3-1, but they aren’t considered contenders in the Big 12. In fact, they haven’t been ranked since 2018, which has forced Mahomes to look at other schools or players in order to get his fill of elite playmaking. On Friday night, he gave a glimpse into which quarterback has his eye: Cameron Ward.
Patrick Mahomes is a Cam Ward fan
Mahomes was watching the Miami Hurricanes vs. Virginia Tech game, which ended in stunning fashion. But before all hell broke loose, the Miami quarterback made an incredible, improvisational play. And Mahomes took notice.
It’s no surprise Mahomes felt compelled to post about it. Mahomes has made a living on making plays like the one Ward made. That type of improv football is what has made him so great.
Miami ended up winning after a Hail Mary touchdown for the Hokies was reversed after replay review. Ward made another great impression with NFL scouts in attendance. He threw two interceptions, but bounced back from both and led the comeback, contributing five total touchdowns and 400 total yards.
He will be playing on Sundays across from Mahomes as soon as next season.
