Christian Barmore is a key part of the New England Patriots defense, he has helped in the interior part of the line and has been determined to be a problem for other teams to deal with. However, he might not be with the team at the start of the NFL season after an emotional announcement.
The team released a statement following the absence of the player from the team’s practice and it was a surprise for many. “Over the weekend, Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots. He was properly treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who examined, evaluated and treat Christian,” the Patriots revealed.
“Our main concern at this time is Christian’s health and well-being. Fortunetly, Mass General Brigham offers one of the best health care in the world. Although there is currently no date for his return, we know that Christian is receiving magnificent care and we hope he makes a full recovery.“
The impact of Christian Barmore in the team
Christian Barmore just turned 25 years old and was selected during the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Over three seasons he managed to play in 44 games, make 11 starts and total 12.5 sacks, with 8.5 of them coming last season alone. Consequently, he signed a four-year, $83 million extension this year.
Projected to be the worst offense in the NFL this year, their hopes to save the season were to have a dominant defense once again. Unfortunately, Barmore’s injury puts this scenario in a predicament.
The Patriots now may have to demand more from their offense without a defined starting quarterback. Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye are battling for the starting position. Whoever enters the field this year should be able to do more than their predecessors because there won’t be as dominant a defense as before, at least not on paper.
