Shaquille O’Neal’s plans to team up with LeBron James and Mark Cuban for an NBA team are beginning to take shape

Could Mark Cuban head back into NBA franchise ownership along with two of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game in the form of Shaquille O’Neal and the Los Angeles LakersLeBron James?

The ex-Shark Tank star potentially looks to re-enter the sport after selling his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks just prior to their run to the 2023/24 NBA Finals, when they were defeated by the Boston Celtics.

But after one year, the 66-year-old is reportedly hungry to get back into the day-to-day life of front office executive work in professional sport, and could partner up with O’Neal and James to invest in a new organization.

“I’d have to make it okay with my current partners,” Cuban told The Big Podcast With Shaq of his current commitments to the Mavericks. “But if my kids were like, ‘All right, we’re set. That’s not what we want or whatever.’ And it was Shaq? F**k yeah.

“I would look at making a comeback. So we get me [Cuban], you [O’Neal], LeBron, we might have something there.”

Could the trio work?

Combined, the group would have a net worth in the region of around 7.3 billion dollars meaning they could quite comfortably acquire some stakes in a new organization and franchise. Together, they would all bring intimate knowledge of life in basketball.

Cuban would supply over a decade of franchise ownership experience from the Mavericks whilst O’Neal and LeBron, combined, have around 40 years’ of playing experience on the NBA courts.

Additionally, O’Neal previously had some experience as a minority stakeholder in the Sacramento Kings‘ organization as well as countless other business ventures including being one of the first investors in Google.

Meanwhile, LeBron has invested in Liverpool FC in soccer, alongside the Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL. He is also an investor in the RFK Racing team in the NASCAR Cup competition, combining playing experience with sharp business IQ.
