Shedeur Sanders skips NFL Combine throwing drills ahead of draft

Shedeur Sanders, one of the most highly touted quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, has decided not to throw at this week’s NFL Scouting Combine, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Instead, the Colorado Buffaloes standout will attend the event in Indianapolis only to participate in interviews with teams.

While Sanders won’t showcase his arm at the combine, he isn’t avoiding workouts altogether. He plans to throw at Colorado’s pro day, where he will have the advantage of working with former Buffaloes teammates. The exact date for that event has yet to be set.

A strategic move ahead of the NFL Draft

This decision follows a growing trend among top quarterback prospects. Last year, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels also skipped throwing at the combine, instead focusing on their pro days before being selected No. 1 and No. 2 overall, respectively.

Sanders enters the draft as one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects after a stellar college career. He spent his first two seasons at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado, where he played under his father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. In his senior season, he threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, finishing eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Where does Sanders rank among top QB prospects?

Sanders is widely expected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board in April’s draft. However, competition remains fierce, with Cam Ward, who played last season at Miami, also in contention for the No. 1 overall pick.

With the draft beginning on April 24, all eyes will be on Sanders‘ pro day performance, where he’ll have the opportunity to solidify his standing as a top-tier quarterback prospect.
