Skip Bayless, the renowned sports media personality, recently found himself at the center of a lighthearted roast by his wife, Ernestine, during a post-Thanksgiving episode of his show, The Skip Bayless Show. Their playful banter revolved around Bayless’ unwavering passion for the Dallas Cowboys and his career. Married since 2016, Ernestine humorously highlighted the extent of her husband’s dedication to the team.
“The house could be on fire and just as long as the TV is still not on fire, you will sit in the house watching it and just tell the fire department just put the fire out around me,” she joked. She added, “You have to watch the Dallas Cowboys and see if they’re going to lose and then you could bitch a little bit about it.”
During the episode, Bayless reminisced about their first date, when he candidly “warned” Ernestine about his devotion to his career. “I swore an oath to this life,” he said. He recalled telling Ernestine, “You’ll always be 1A to my job,” should their relationship progress. Despite this, Bayless expressed deep admiration for his wife, praising her as his “most loyal companion.”
He shared that one of the reasons he was drawn to her was her disinterest in sports. “I was most attracted to the fact that you didn’t like sports because I don’t want a me, I don’t want somebody who is going to obsess with me and feed my addiction to sports,” he explained. He also humorously noted her lack of cooking skills, which contrasted with his family’s culinary expertise.
Bayless’ Cowboys devotion takes center stage
The episode also featured their beloved dog, Hazel, who is clearly an integral part of their lives. Bayless, who celebrated the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving victory over the Giants on social media, has often spoken highly of Ernestine.
In a 2019 interview with The Post, he described her as “the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me,” adding, “I get emotional about it because she is so real, so true and so loyal. I don’t know anyone who could put up with me, but she has from Day 1.”
Bayless’ relationship with Ernestine offers a glimpse into his personal life beyond his career in sports media. Despite his intense devotion to his work and the Cowboys, their partnership reflects mutual respect, humor, and loyalty.
