The collaboration between Curry and CNBC began when CNBC president KC Sullivan proposed the idea of focusing on sports as an increasingly valuable “investable asset.” To kickstart the project, the CNBC crew followed Curry during the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend to capture exclusive footage. The footage will play a crucial role in the show’s pilot season.
However, there were some shifts in the initial plans for the series. CNBC originally intended to feature a rematch of the popular 3-point contest from the previous year, where Curry would face off against stars like Sabrina Ionescu and Klay Thompson.
Unfortunately, at the last minute, Curry pulled out of the contest, prompting the network to scrap those original plans. As a result, the focus was moved away from the shooting contest and onto new All-Star Sunday formats.
Despite the change in plans, CNBC has confirmed that it will still utilize footage from Curry‘s time at the All-Star weekend for the series. While there’s no official release date yet, the show is expected to premiere during the next NBA season, coinciding with the NBA’s lucrative new $76 billion deal with Walt Disney.
