Stephen Curry wants to live and enjoy the present without thinking about retirement. At 37, the Golden State Warriors star is in his 17th season at a high level.
However, doubts and rumors about the end of his career surround him more strongly as the years go by. Despite this, Steph seems not to give much importance to the future, but rather to enjoying each day.
Curry is not thinking about retirement
A knee injury prevented him from taking part in the All-Star Game this weekend, where he was set to make his 12th appearance at the event. However, the four-time NBA champion stayed on the sidelines to watch the revamped format of Team USA vs. Team World.
On the other hand, his success on the big screen with his new animated film “GOAT,” where he voiced the character of a giraffe, has also kept the Akron-born NBA star busy.
Curry has no plans to slow down, and in an interview with People, he confirmed this, confessing that he has decided to take his time with this big decision that could end one of the most outstanding careers in sports:
“It’ll declare itself, whenever the time comes to call it quits, which I don’t think is anytime soon,” Curry revealed. “I’m not really putting too much pressure on that.”
“Thinking about the end robs you of the now,” he explains. “I’m enjoying the journey of competing and all the work that goes into it. Hopefully that carries me a long way.”
Curry has missed 15 games this season, but he is averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.1 steals, and he probably has a few more seasons left on the court.
However, Stephen knows that Father Time catches up with everyone, and at some point, he will have to make the decision to retire. Despite that, he enjoys redefining the league: “It is a badge of honor to now be the oldest player doing all of these great things, to redefine what greatness looks like at this age… I wear all of those things like a badge of honor, because I know how much work goes into it-to play this game that I love.”
Curry is now one of only 16 players who entered the NBA in the 2000s. However, he is not the longest-serving player; that title goes to LeBron James, who, even at 41, continues to play and perform at a high level.
Meanwhile, as Steph continues to recover from his injury, the Warriors are preparing to face the Pelicans on the road this Tuesday, February 24, at the New Orleans Arena.
