Stephen A. Smith didn’t hold back on First Take Monday, offering a scathing critique of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill after the star hinted at a potential departure from the team.
Hill‘s comments followed the Dolphins’ disappointing season, where they missed the NFL playoffs, marking a first for the speedy wideout.
“Hell to the no,” Smith began. “Stay you’re a** right there.”
Smith continued to rip into Hill, focusing on the difference in his career since leaving the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“Life’s a little bit different when you ain’t with Patrick Mahomes,” Smith said. “We tried to tell you. We don’t want to hear about no family now. You got your bag. That ain’t family, bro.
“Family’s the bag. Once you get the bag, family’s taken care of. This is about you recognizing that life is a little bit different when Patrick Mahomes ain’t throwing you the football.”
Hill, who was traded to Miami in 2022 after failing to reach a contract extension with Kansas City, made headlines with his remarks following Miami’s season-ending loss to the New York Jets.
Hill reflects on missing the playoffs
Speaking to reporters, Hill expressed frustration with missing the playoffs for the first time in his career and suggested he might be considering options outside of Miami.
“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man. So I just got to do what’s best for me and my family,” Hill said on Sunday. “If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro.
“It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what’s best for my career because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
Adding to the tension, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel appeared to question Hill’s commitment during the final game.
Hill didn’t play in the fourth quarter of the team’s loss to the Jets, citing a wrist injury. However, McDaniel suggested he wasn’t informed about any new injuries.
Hill maintained his wrist issue made him unavailable, but McDaniel‘s comments implied skepticism.
