Dallas Cowboys could have two very important absences on defense when the season begins.
Stephen Jones, the team’s executive vice president, said that there are no concrete dates for the recovery of linebackers DeMarvion Overshown and cornerback Trevon Diggs.

“We don’t know when we’ll get these players back,” Jones said at a press conference on Monday.
“They have significant injuries. They are very likely not to be starters when the season starts,” Jones reiterated.
Essentially Sports indicates that, although DeMarvion Overshown has made great progress by walking without crutches three months after surgery, it is still uncertain how available he will be.
In 2024, he had an outstanding performance with 90 tackles and five sacks, although the torn ligaments in December left his knee in very bad shape. “My crutch is not in sports mode,” he joked in January to the Cowboys’ official website
Meanwhile, Trevon Diggs’ rehabilitation is ongoing after two consecutive knee injuries derailed his 2023 and 2024 seasons. The All-Pro cornerback is in Florida with Dr. Sharif Tabbah, who did not venture to give a return-to-play date.
“It’s too early to talk about that [return dates],” the doctor said. “We have to overcome a lot of weaknesses and things like that because of the inactivity,” he added.
Diggs is regaining stability and also has his brother Stefon close by, who is also recovering from an injury. The two motivate each other and are mindful of each other’s progress.
This is how the Cowboys’ defense could start the season depleted, as Dak Prescott will be missing his teammates to give that extra push.
