Taiko has officially started Season 2, following the completion of Season 1. The announcement, made on September 17, 2024, includes significant updates and new features designed to enhance participant engagement and reward distribution, according to taiko.mirror.xyz.
Season 2 Timeline and Rewards
Season 2 commenced on September 17, 2024, at 00:00 UTC and will run until December 16, 2024, at 23:59 UTC, covering a duration of 91 days or 13 weeks. The total rewards for this season are set at 6 million Taiko tokens.
Changes to the XP System
Several key changes have been made to the xp system:
- Participants will no longer receive points for bridging tokens into the Taiko ecosystem.
- The formula for awarding Transaction points has been modified to increase xp for higher-cost transactions, with a new maximum of 1000 xp per transaction.
Point Categories
Participants can earn points in three categories:
- Transaction – Points based on gas spent.
- Transaction Value – Points based on value exchanged, unchanged from Season 1.
- Proposed Blocks – Points for proposing new blocks by running core infrastructure.
Season 1 XP Transfer
As a token of appreciation, participants will receive a percentage of their Season 1 xp as a head start in Season 2. Additional xp boosts will be granted for holding a Taikoon or unique Season 1 Faction Badges, with a maximum boost cap of 150,000 xp.
Leaderboard Update
The leaderboard will now reflect NFT multipliers throughout the season, rather than applying them only at the end. Points earned for actions will be multiplied by the NFTs held at the time of the action. Multipliers will not be applied retroactively.
New Teams, Whales and Minnows, have been introduced alongside the existing Devs team. Each team will have unique Faction editions and specific point multipliers for different actions.
How the Multipliers Stack
The new multiplier formula for Faction Team bonuses is 0.05 * n, where n is the number of Badges the participant owns. The multipliers stack, encouraging participants to collect various badges to maximize their points.
How to Get New Badges
Several methods are available for obtaining new badges in Season 2:
- Taikoon Drop – An airdrop for Taikoon holders from Season 1.
- Migration – Convert Season 1 badges into Season 2 badges with a 50/50 chance of becoming a Whale or Minnow badge.
- XP Milestones – Unlock additional badges by reaching specific xp milestones.
The Faction Battle Arena is a new feature where participants can register their Faction Badges to compete in tournaments for additional prizes.
Despite the extensive list of features, Taiko has more plans in the pipeline. An AMA session will be held on September 17, 2024, in Taiko’s Discord to address any questions and provide further details.
