Taylor Swift has never hidden her personal influences in her music or her life, and that openness extends to sports loyalty.
However, a newly released Disney+ docuseries has reignited debate among fans after revealing that the global pop star once openly backed the Philadelphia Eagles during rehearsals for the Eras Tour, before her relationship with Travis Kelce ultimately pulled her toward a new NFL sideline.
Messi will give Mahomes and Kelce an experience unlike anything they’ve had with the Chiefs
The moment appears in the first episode of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour | The End of an Era, which documents six months of preparation and rehearsals for the record-breaking tour.
In the opening scenes, Swift, who turns 36 on 13 December, arrives at rehearsals wearing Eagles gear, a nod to her Pennsylvania roots.
She grew up near Reading, Penn., and has previously confirmed her fandom, most notably referencing an Eagles T-shirt in her 2020 song “Gold Rush.”
At the time, the Eras Tour rehearsals were unfolding against the backdrop of a dramatic NFL storyline. In February 2023, just one month before the tour launched, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
The matchup was historic, marking the first time brothers Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, the Eagles’ longtime center, faced each other on football’s biggest stage.
Despite the heartbreak for Eagles fans, Swift‘s allegiance would soon shift in a very public way.
From Eagles green to Chiefs red
As the Eras Tour rolled on, Swift‘s personal life intersected with the NFL in unexpected fashion.
In July 2023, Travis Kelce attended her Eras Tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
Although he famously traded friendship bracelets with fans, he later admitted that he unsuccessfully tried to meet Swift backstage.
That missed connection didn’t last long. By September, Swift made headlines when she attended the Chiefs‘ game against the Chicago Bears, her first time watching Kelce play in person.
From there, her presence at Chiefs games became a recurring storyline, signaling a clear pivot away from her Eagles roots.
The docuseries also offers a rare glimpse into the couple’s private conversations. During a phone call featured in the first episode, Swift draws parallels between their careers, telling Kelce, “We basically do the same job.”
He responds, “You got teammates, I got teammates,” prompting Swift to joke, “You’ve got Coach Reid, I’ve got…my mom.” Both burst into laughter before Kelce adds, “Thanks for making my life better.” Swift replies, “I know, this was like, some people get a vitamin drip. I got this conversation.”
That bond has only deepened. Appearing on The Late Show, Swift described being engaged to “the love of [her] life” as one of the things she’s most grateful for.
She and Kelce announced their engagement on 26 August with a joint Instagram post reading, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Now streaming on Disney+, The End of an Era captures not just the evolution of a tour, but a subtle shift in loyalty that fans can’t ignore. What began as Eagles green eventually turned into Chiefs red, a reminder that even lifelong allegiances can change when love enters the picture.
