Marc-Andre ter Stegen will become a new Girona player shortly. The final decision was made after Hansi Flick left him on the bench in Thursday’s Copa del Rey match against Racing Santander, in what was a clear message to the goalkeeper that he was not going to play at Barcelona. And the goalkeeper’s reaction was not long in coming.
If up to now he had not given the green light to his departure, he has now informed the club that he is willing to leave and that his intention is to go to Girona. Barcelona, who had already been in contact with the Girona club about the loan, were waiting for the goalkeeper to activate his departure, as has now happened.

The two parties have already begun to negotiate the terms of the loan. It is not an easy operation, because Ter Stegen earns a lot of money and Girona cannot afford such a large salary. In fact, according to various sources, they could take on between 10 and 20 percent of what he earns at Barcelona.
The Blaugrana club has always been aware of this situation and is willing to assume a large part of the salary. This is precisely what the negotiation is focused on: determining how much money each club will pay the goalkeeper. The agreement is not imminent, but sources close to the Girona club are convinced that an understanding will be reached that could be closed next week.
