Roberto Gomez left one of the most striking headlines of his daily intervention in La Tribu de Radio MARCA, the program presented by Raul Varela. Among the comments of current analysis, ‘Bobby’ (as he is affectionately called by Raul on air) revealed an impossible longing of a Real Madrid that since the departure of Kroos and Modric needs quality in the midfield.
“The player that Real Madrid would like to sign, and their president, is a midfielder… and his name is Pedri,” Gomez said live on air, quickly generating debate in the studio.
Pedri stands out in Barcelona’s training with a skill that sets him apart
The comment provoked the immediate reaction of Raul Varela, who recalled the enormous difficulty of such an operation. “But he won’t be able to sign”, said the presenter, to which Gomez responded by leaving the door open with irony: “I don’t know… there has never been a Barcelona player who has signed for Real Madrid”.
Several historical precedents were quickly mentioned of players who did make the move between the two clubs, such as Schuster, Miquel Soler, Luis Milla or the most media-friendly case of all, that of Luis Figo. These names show that, although unlikely, it would not be an impossible move.
A lot of desire and little viability
Gomez insisted that it is a sporting preference: “The player that Florentino Perez and Real Madrid would like is Pedri”. However, he also acknowledged the difficulty of the deal, especially because of the Canarian’s contractual situation and his importance in Barcelona’s project.
The journalist also made it clear that one thing is desire and another is viability: “One thing is what you like and another is what you can do,” he commented jokingly during his speech.
Roberto Gomez’s revelation comes at a time when Real Madrid are still looking for young talent for their midfield. However, in Barcelona, the last thing they are thinking about is getting rid of their Canarian diamond.
