The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs have a long story marked by their fierce rivalry but also for the historical trades between the two. From “13 Seconds” to epic playoff duels at Highmark Stadium, these two powerhouses usually spend their Sundays trying to ruin each other’s seasons.
Yet, behind the scenes, there is a consolidating trend. When it comes to the NFL Draft, the Bills keep handing the Chiefs the keys to their future. According to a new high-profile mock draft from NFL.com’s Chad Reuter, history is about to repeat itself on Friday.
A pattern of favors

To understand why another trade between these two is so significant, you have to look at the scars and the trophies left behind by their previous deals.
The “partnership” began in 2017, a moment that changed the trajectory of the league. The Bills traded the No. 10 overall pick to Kansas City, which the Chiefs used to select a quarterback out of Texas Tech named Patrick Mahomes…
While the Bills eventually found their own star in Josh Allen, that single move ignited a dynasty in Missouri. The cooperation did not stop there though. In 2024, Buffalo traded down with the Chiefs again, allowing Kansas City to snag lightning-fast wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Meanwhile, Buffalo’s subsequent pick, Keon Coleman, struggled to find his footing, ending up as a disappointment in his rookie campaign.
Proctor for Howell
Now, Chad Reuter predicts a third major installment in this curious saga. The hypothetical trade looks like this:
- The Bills trade down from 26th overall to 29th overall.
- Chiefs send their fourth-round pick to Buffalo in exchange for a sixth-rounder.
For Kansas City, the goal is to get more protection. The trade would allow them to select offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, a vital piece to keep the pocket clean for Mahomes. For Buffalo, the move is about defensive reinvention. Reuter predicts the Bills would use the 29th pick on edge rusher Cashius Howell.
“The Bills’ new-look defense could use Howell’s speed off the edge. Opponents will forget all about his short arms… when he becomes a major pass-rush factor as his rookie campaign progresses
If Proctor becomes a cornerstone tackle and Howell struggles with the physical demands of the pro game, the deals between these two will once again be the talk of the league
