NBA superstar Luka Doncic is a proud father to Gabriela and Olivia, and he has made no secret of how much his family motivates him.
His Jordan Brand sneakers feature their initials alongside a heart, a handwritten detail he added himself shortly after returning from Slovenia, where he spent time with his fiance Anamaria Goltes following the birth of their second daughter in December 2025.
Gabriela immediately rang bells for Disney fans. It is the name of the lead character played by Vanessa Hudgens in High School Musical.
Olivia raised eyebrows for a different reason, sharing a first name with Olivia Rodrigo, who later starred in High School Musical: The Series. For many online, the coincidence felt almost scripted.
How Doncic’s Disney fandom fueled the theory
The speculation did not come out of nowhere. Doncic has openly embraced his affection for High School Musical for years. On a recent day off, with the Lakers not playing, he posted the film’s opening song to his Instagram Story, a familiar move for followers who have seen him share similar moments before.
One user summed up the collective reaction in a post that quickly spread across social media: “Wait, Gabriela is from High School Musical the movie and Olivia [Rodrigo] was in High School Musical: The Series… he named his daughters after his fav musical.”
That single comment ignited a wave of playful debate. Some fans joked that naming a daughter Sharpay would have removed all doubt. Others pushed back, pointing out that Gabriela and Olivia are classic names, popular long before East High ever existed.
Doncic himself has never suggested there was any Disney inspiration involved. Still, his own words keep the theory alive. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal shortly before Olivia was born, he admitted he had watched High School Musical between 10 and 15 times, a confession that fans quickly resurfaced as supporting evidence.
Whether intentional or not, the connection fits neatly with the image Doncic has built. He is a superstar who does not shy away from nostalgia or from showing his softer side.
