The Dallas Cowboys could target Oregon Ducks to find their backup quarterback

The backup quarterback position for the Cowboys is now available following the recent signing of Cooper Rush with the Baltimore Ravens for two years and a value of $12.2 million, Dallas is currently looking for quarterbacks.

As always, rumors surrounding Jerry Jones’ team are heating up, and one of the options to fill the position may not be in free agency but instead come from the upcoming draft in April 2025.

Of course, the Cowboys are far from considering Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, who are currently the most prominent options in the draft, however, the team’s management may target Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel next month.

Why could Gabriel join the Cowboys?

A few days before the start of free agency, the Cowboys’ executive vice president, Stephen Jones, indicated that there was a strong possibility of selecting a quarterback, and now with the departure of Cooper Rush, this possibility is further reinforced.

“You know, I think one of our goals is to get a young quarterback in the draft. I don’t know where that will be. We’ll evaluate the entire situation. You always want to have a young player coming in, that’s always a preference, and certainly that’s something we’ll look at in the draft, to see if there’s a young guy we can start developing,” said Jones.

This offseason, the Cowboys acquired former Oregon assistant Junior Adams as their wide receivers coach, and he is well familiar with what Gabriel could bring to the team.

In 2024, Gabriel threw for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns in 14 games. He also rushed for 149 yards and 7 touchdowns. His last college game was in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State, which ended in a loss for his team.
