If there is something that distinguishes Deion Sanders, it is his loyalty and commitment. Both professionally and personally, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes has shown that he can be fully trusted, and Michael Irvin can attest to that.
The former Dallas Cowboys receiver went through very difficult years in the early 2000s. Behavioral problems and multiple brushes with the law marked his life on and off the field, such as the fight in which he stabbed Everett McIver with scissors and several accusations of sexual abuse.
Among all of them, there was one incident that marked not only Irvin’s but also Sanders’ lives. On November 25, 2005, the police in Plano, Texas, stopped the former player for speeding. Upon searching his car, they discovered a pipe and bags of marijuana residue, which led to his arrest.

In a chat on Tubi TV’s “We Got Time Today,” Sanders and Irvin opened up about how this arrest ended up strengthening their friendship. “It was the greatest day of my life when he called me,” Irvin said in the conversation.
The former receiver admitted, “I couldn’t stop crying that day. I just said, man, thanks for calling.” Sanders, for his part, always defended his former teammate; at the time of the arrest, the former Cowboys cornerback said, “Michael Irvin is totally innocent. I know the whole situation.”
Sanders has warm memories of that call. “It had to be around 6 in the morning, and he picked up on the first ring,” the Buffs coach narrated, adding, “I said, ‘Man, look, I don’t know what it was or whatever it is, but let’s fix it. I love you, my brother.'”
Why was Michael Irvin arrested?
According to Irvin’s statements, he got the pipe from a friend who visited him on Thanksgiving. He claimed he had always intended to throw it away, but had forgotten. Police arrested him for a Class C misdemeanor and released him on bond.
In 1996, Irvin had a similar problem, when he was sentenced to four years probation and a $10,000 fine for cocaine possession. In 2001, police raided an apartment where Irvin and a woman were staying, finding marijuana and other drugs. Although the player was arrested, authorities dropped the charges.
