The Miami Dolphins have made difficult decisions this offseason, but ones that will deliver results in the short term. They have parted ways with players who carried very high salaries, even if that creates dead money on their salary cap.
They realized in the front office that it was not proving beneficial to keep carrying those players whose performance had been below average while earning significant money.
In Miami, they did not want to pull a Cleveland with Deshaun Watson, which has become a bottomless pit. They took immediate action, now acknowledge the mistake, and look ahead. In South Florida, they now hold a solid amount of draft capital after moving players who were no longer useful to them.

The team’s new general manager arrived with a firm approach and has shown little hesitation. Even so, several key contributors from the 2025 season remain after delivering strong performances and appear likely to continue with the franchise.
Running back De’Von Achane remains with the team for now, coming off truly spectacular numbers that earned him a Pro Bowl selection and the highest yardage total of his career.

Inside the organization, they have stated that he is not available to be moved, yet anything can happen if a significant offer arrives for the player.

New contract for De’Von Achane in Miami
According to Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson, the franchise has restructured the running back’s contract. On that note, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk added.
Miami added four void years to the deal, allowing the bulk of the contract to be paid as a signing bonus and pushing $3.6 million into future years.
With this move, both the player and the front office are aiming to reach a favorable contract agreement ahead of the 2026 season. All of these adjustments reflect a broader strategy focused on financial flexibility and roster efficiency, while maintaining competitiveness in the immediate future and preserving options for sustained success in upcoming seasons across the organization.
